PROGRAMS & PROJECTS.

Experience the beauty of Sn̓ʕay̓čkstx (Sinixt) and Sx̌ʷy̓ʔiɬp (Swee-ithp) Language & Cultures with the Inchelium Language & Culture Association. Together, let's dive into the depths of Nsəlxcin and master its intricacies. Join us in a vibrant community where cultural events bring us closer, forging connections and building a strong sense of belonging. Your journey towards language revitalization starts here.

Community Language

ILCA does an annual Introduction to Nsəlxcin (N1 Class). During these classes students are introduced to over 300 words and 100 small phrases. N1 Classes are conducted on-line with one of our experienced Nsəlxcin instructors.

Teacher Training

ILCA offers 3 year Nsəlxcin teacher trainings. These 3 year trainings not only create highly proficient new Nsəlxcin speakers but provide our learners with the tools and understanding of Second Language Acquisition to become effective and highly qualified Nsəlxcin instructors themselves.

Youth Engagement

Our youth are our future and we are working to build an effective teaching model within our school.  We work closely with the Inchelium School to supplement their Nsəlxcin offerings. Sending our teachers into the school to help teach language & Cultural classes 4 days per week.

Paddle to Sx̌ʷnítkʷ

Join us as we come together each winter to honor our sacred heritage. Experience the wisdom of our elders as they weave together the timeless tales that have guided our ancestors and continue to shape our lives today. Across the vast lands of the Interior Salish-speaking territory, tribes unite, fostering connections and building bridges that transcend time. Come, be a part of this rich tapestry of traditions and wisdom.

Join us on an incredible adventure this June! Tribes of the Upper Columbia come together for a week-long journey to Sx̌ʷnítkʷ (Kettle Falls WA). We'll paddle 272 miles across breathtaking waters, connecting two separate legs before reaching our destination. But it's not just about the physical challenge - we're on a mission to raise awareness for Salmon Passage on the Columbia River and reignite our deep connection to the land we call home. Come be a part of something truly special and meaningful.

Sx̌ʷnítkʷ Salmon Ceremony

We conclude each paddle with the Sx̌ʷnítkʷ Salmon Ceremony. For countless generations, this sacred ritual has unfolded against the majestic backdrop of Kettle Falls. This historic site has witnessed the awe-inspiring spectacle of one of the world's grandest ancient fisheries. Amidst breathtaking beauty, the Salmon Ceremony unites the Tribes of the Upper Columbia in heartfelt prayer for the imminent return of these magnificent creatures to the source of the Columbia River.
